Difference between Screw Chiller and Scroll Chiller

Chiller or Cooling Tower?

Chiller and cooling tower are both cooling equipments, but the working principle is quite different. If we compare them with our daily used home appliances, a chiller is like air conditioner, while a cooling tower is like a fan. You can easily see the difference: air conditioner can bring the temperature lower than ambient, while fan can not.  In industrial process, you can also easily decide what is suitable for you. If your process requires water temperature lower than the ambient, then only chiller unit can meet the requirement. For example, you need cooling water temperature around 15℃, but your ambient temperature is not lower than 15℃, then cooling tower can not manage this case. As one of the most important parts in a chiller, the purpose of evaporator is to transfer the cooling energy from cold refrigerant(gas) to water or other coolant. There are three main types of evaporator for  industrial chillers , they are coil type, shell and tube type and plate type. Here we are comparing these three types of evaporators from aspects of  Heat Transfer Efficiency, Requirement for Water Quality, Convenience of Maintenance  and  Space Occupation. 1.     Heat Transfer Efficiency. Air cooled or water cooled chiller, which is suitable for my case? This is a question put in front of many people. Here we will talk about the differences between them from these aspects: performance, installation, maintenance and cost. 1.    Performance Air cooled industrial chiller is with aluminum fin type condenser, which allows it to discharge the heat to the air. In other words, the heat is removed by the ambient air. Water cooled chiller is normally with shell and tube condenser. The heat from the chiller is removed by water that goes into and out from the condenser. As we know, for a chiller, if you can get lower condensing temperature, you can have better performance. Actually, the difference of condensing temperature is the reason of different performance between water cooled and air cooled chiller. In our daily life, if we want to cool something, for example a glass of hot water, do you prefer putting the glass in a container with cold water or put it in front
